When the mask of hypocrisy is worn for too long, those who wear it eventually mistake it for their actual face. The illicit affairs that have secretly persisted for years among the upper echelons and highly educated sectors of our society are far more than mere deviations in personal privacy. They are a sorrowful self-portrait that vividly demonstrates just how deep the moral insensitivity of our social elite has plummeted.

The fact that public figures—who are expected to uphold the highest standards of morality and social responsibility—have been leading double lives, destroying other families while deceiving their own spouses behind closed doors, has inflicted profound shock and anger upon the public.

The Moral Hazard and 'Loss of Guilt' Among the Highly Educated Elite

Generally, the elite, equipped with high intellect and education, are expected to adhere more strictly to social norms and ethics. Reality, however, proves otherwise. Countless cases and data accumulated over the past five years reveal that their social status and knowledge have instead degenerated into tools used to justify and conceal their wrongdoings.

The psychological undertone that allowed them to maintain these relationships for years without feeling a shred of guilt is rooted in a sense of entitlement and "moral rationalization." They granted themselves absolution through a warped privilege that whispers, "Because I contribute to society, this level of deviation is permissible," or through the deceitful logic that "as long as I don't get caught, no one gets hurt." The destruction of the other party's family and the psychological agony of their own spouses were entirely out of sight. Only momentary desire and selfish comfort served as the standards for their behavior.

A Threat to the 'Family'—The Bedrock of a Healthy Society

The family is the most fundamental and robust community supporting a society. When a family maintained on trust and responsibility collapses, the pain suffered by its members translates into psychological instability for society as a whole.

In particular, seeing those who should serve as role models take the lead in betraying trust can instill a flawed value system across society: the belief that "as long as you have success and status, morality doesn't matter." The contagion of these negative values to adolescents and the younger generation is another severe side effect that cannot be overlooked.

Time to Correct Corrupt Behaviors and Return to Core Values

It is now time to strip away their masks and restore the broken trust within our society.
